Methods to Update PAN Card Details

You can update or correct your PAN card details using two primary methods:

  1. Online: Through the NSDL (Protean eGov Technologies Limited) or UTIITSL portals.
  2. Offline: By visiting designated PAN service centers.

Let’s delve into the step-by-step processes for both methods.

Online PAN Card Correction via NSDL (Protean eGov Technologies)

If you wish to update details on your PAN card such as your Name, Father’s Name, Date of Birth, Photo, Signature, or other details, follow the steps below carefully. Each step is explained in detail to avoid errors.

Step 1: Access the PAN Card Correction Portal

  • Visit NSDL’s official website https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html.
  • Here, proceed with Apply Online process to update/correct details on the PAN Card.
  • Now, click on the Application Type, and a drop-down menu will open. Here, select the “Change or Correction in existing Pan Data/ Reprint of PAN Card” option.

  • Now, click on the Category option and select the appropriate category from the provided options, which is Individuals, Associations of People, Body of Individuals, Company, Trust, etc.

Step 2: Fill Out the Basic Application Form

After that, fill out all the basic details, that includes:

  • Title*: [Mr./Ms./Mrs./Other]
  • Last Name / Surname*: [Enter Last Name]
  • First Name: [Enter First Name]
  • Middle Name: [Enter Middle Name]
  • Date of Birth / Incorporation / Formation (DD/MM/YYYY)*: [Enter Date]
  • Email ID*: [Enter Email Address]
  • Mobile Number*: [Enter Mobile Number]
  • Whether Citizen of India*: [Yes/No]
  • PAN Number*: [Enter PAN Number]

Remember, filling all the star mark (*) areas is mandatory.

  • Now, tick the declaration box.
  • Enter the Captcha Code.
  • Finally, click on Submit.

Step 3: Generate the Token Number

Upon submission, a Token ID will be generated. This token number will be sent to your registered email ID.

  • Note down this Token ID for future reference.
  • Click on “Continue with PAN Application Form” to proceed.

Important: The token number is valid for 30 days only. Please ensure you complete your application within this time to avoid cancellation.

Step 4: Choose KYC and Update Mode

  • You will be prompted to select the KYC mode. You can choose from:
    • Paperless e-KYC: Links your Aadhaar details directly.
    • e-Sign with Scanned Documents: Upload scanned copies of your photo, signature, and documents.
    • Submit Physical Documents: Send physical documents via courier.
    • Recommendation: Choose e-Sign with Scanned Documents to upload your preferred photo and signature.
  • Enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar number to authenticate.
  • Ensure the name entered matches your Aadhaar Card.

Step 5: Update Specific PAN Details

This is where you can update any or all of the following details:

  • Full Name: Tick the checkbox for “Full Name” and enter the correct name (as per documents).
    • Ensure you fill Last Name/Surname, First Name, and Middle Name correctly, in the order provided here.

  • Father’s Name: If correcting the father’s name, tick the checkbox for “Father’s Name” and update the details.
  • Date of Birth (DOB): Tick the checkbox for “Date of Birth” and select the correct DOB.
  • Photo and Signature:
    • Tick the checkbox for “Photo” to update your photograph.
    • Tick the checkbox for “Signature” to update your signature.
  • Gender: If updating gender, tick the corresponding checkbox and select Male/Female/Other.
  • Parent’s Name on PAN: Tick the checkbox if you want either Father’s Name or Mother’s Name printed on the PAN.
  • Address: Tick the checkbox for “Address” to update your residence or office address.

Important: Ensure you tick the boxes for all sections you want to update; otherwise, the changes won’t reflect.

Step 6: Upload Supporting Documents

  • Based on the corrections, upload the required proof documents:
    • Identity Proof: Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, Driving License, etc.
    • Address Proof: Aadhaar, Utility Bill, Ration Card, etc.
    • Date of Birth Proof: Birth Certificate, Passport, or Class 10 Marksheet.
  • Upload your photo and signature after resizing them as per the given file size and dimensions (use free online tools if needed).
  • Save your draft before proceeding.

Step 7: Declaration and Submission

  • Enter your full name and select the declaration type (Self for those above 18 years old).
  • Provide the city or location where you’re filling out the form.
  • Verify all entered details and submit the application.

Step 8: Payment of Fees

  • Pay the applicable fee for PAN correction through net banking, debit/credit card, or UPI.
  • After payment, download the acknowledgment receipt.

Step 9: Track Your Application

  • Use the acknowledgment number to track the status of your PAN correction application on the same portal.
  • Your updated PAN Card will be delivered to your registered address.

Online PAN Card Correction via UTIITSL

PAN Card correction or updating can be done through UTIITSL official website www.pan.utiitsl.com as well. To make the correction through this portal, follow the steps provided below:

Step 1: Visit the official website of UTIITSL for PAN https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/csf.html

Step 2: Scroll down on the page and click on the “Apply for Changes/Correction in PAN Card Details” button. The PAN correction portal will open.

Step 3: On this page, fill in all asked information, which is:

3.1: Choose the Application Mode

Select one of the following options to proceed:

  • Physical: Forward the application with documents physically.
  • Digital (Paperless): Choose the online method, which is paperless.

3.2: Aadhaar-based e-KYC Option

  • Aadhaar-based e-KYC: Select this option to fetch your details from the UIDAI server using your Aadhaar number.

3.3: Choose the Signing Method

  • Sign Using Aadhaar-based eSign: This option allows you to sign the application electronically using your Aadhaar-based eSign.
    • Note: An additional fee of Rs. 5.90 will be levied for signing via eSign.
  • Sign Using Digital Signature Certificate (Class II/III DSC): If you have a Digital Signature Certificate, select this option to sign the application.

3.4: Enter PAN Details

  • Permanent Account Number (PAN)*: Enter your current PAN number in this field.

3.5: Select the PAN Card Mode

Choose the type of PAN card delivery:

  • Both Physical PAN Card and e-PAN: If you want both a physical PAN card and an e-PAN, select this option.
  • e-PAN Only: If you only want the e-PAN (no physical PAN card will be dispatched), select this option.
    • Note: The physical PAN card will be delivered to the address you have provided, while the e-PAN will be sent to your email.

3.6: Submit the Application

After filling out all the required details and selecting the necessary options, click on:

  • Back (to go back to the previous step if needed).
  • Submit (to submit the application once you are sure the information is correct).

Step 4: Fill in the Personal, Parents, Address, and Other Details

4.1: Personal Details:

  • Full Name (As per proof of identity/address/dob documents. Initials are not allowed)
    • Select Name Title
    • Last Name/Surname
    • First Name
    • Middle Name
  • Name to be printed on PAN card (abbreviations of the above name as you would like it on the PAN card)

Remember:

  1. On this page, you’ll see checkboxes for the details you wish to correct.
  2. For example, if you want to change your name, select the name correction checkbox.
  3. Enter your correct name, including title, surname, first name, and middle name, in the fields provided.
  4. If you want to correct your parent’s details, tick the checkbox and provide the corrected details.

4.2: Parent Details:

  • Father’s Name (Mandatory, even for married women; fill in father’s name only)

    • Last Name/Surname
    • First Name
    • Middle Name
  • Mother’s Name (Optional)

    • Last Name/Surname
    • First Name
    • Middle Name
  • Select the name to be printed on PAN card (Choose between father’s or mother’s name)

    • Select Parent Name on Card
    • (If no option is provided, PAN card will be issued with father’s name by default)

4.3: Other Details:

  • Date of Birth / Incorporation/Agreement/Partnership/Trust Deed/Formation of Body of Individuals/Association of Persons
    • DD/MM/YYYY
  • Gender
    • Select Gender
  • State (Details captured based on Aadhaar details)
    • Select State

Remember:

  • If you want to correct your date of birth or gender, tick the respective box and fill in the correct details.
  • If your date of birth is linked to Aadhaar, the system will auto-populate this information.

4.4: Applicant Aadhaar Details:

  • Aadhaar Number
  • Name as per Aadhaar letter/card

4.5: Enter Contact Details:

  • Select India as the country and fill in your contact details, such as mobile number and email ID.
  • Click on the “Next” button.

  • If you have any other PAN cards, mention them here.
  • For first-time applicants, you don’t need to select anything here.
  • Mark the checkbox for “Verification” and proceed.

Step 6: Document Upload:

  • Since you are correcting your name, select the option for “Name Correction.”
  • Upload a copy of your PAN card as proof. Make sure to upload it in PDF format.
  • Click on “Submit.”

Step 7: Payment for Correction:

  • After submitting the form, you’ll be directed to the payment page.
  • Fill in your mobile number and email ID, and confirm the payment by selecting “Bill Taxes.”
  • Choose your preferred payment method (Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card, UPI, etc.) and make the payment.

Step 8: OTP Verification:

  • Once the payment is made, you will receive an OTP on your registered Aadhaar mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP and accept the terms and conditions.

Step 9: Aadhaar e-KYC:

  • After OTP verification, you’ll need to complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC for authentication.
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and click on “Get OTP.” An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP and click “Submit” to complete the process.

Step 10: Confirmation:

  • After successful submission, a confirmation page will appear, displaying your application details.
  • You can track the status of your application via email and check for any updates.

Step 11: Receive Updated PAN Card:

  • The physical PAN card will be sent to your registered address, and you can download your updated e-PAN in PDF format from the UTIITSL portal.

This process allows you to make corrections to your PAN card online using UTIITSL’s portal, and you can track the status of your application after submission.

Offline PAN Card Correction

To update PAN Card details offline, follow the below provided details:

  • Download the Form:
  • Fill the Form:
    • Complete the form with accurate details. Indicate the fields you want to update or correct.
  • Attach Supporting Documents:
    • Provide photocopies of identity proof, address proof, and proof of date of birth.
  • Visit PAN Service Center:
    • Submit the completed form and documents to the nearest PAN service center. Pay the applicable fees.
  • Acknowledgment Slip:
    • Collect the acknowledgment slip for future reference.
  • Document Dispatch:
    • If applying via NSDL, send the acknowledgment slip and documents to the Pune address.
